Thank you for sharing! I started out in sociology and shifted over to counseling so I could maintain my career. As an undergrad, when I brought up Thomas Szacz to my psychiatrist, that’s what got me started on anti-psychotics. I didn’t realize at the time that I was being punished for being a good and a truth seeker student. IT took me a long time to figure those things out.

I checked out the youtube and had some good laughs. It is so true that some of those academics and politicians listed struggle to realize that not everybody is the same. It is something I too struggle with, the fact that mad people are extremely diverse. I think there is a dialectic between experiences we share as a peoples and ways we are exceedingly diverse and unique.

But I particularly thank you for the Rosenhan experiment note. I was cackling at the truth of those experiments!

Books like Thomas Szastz pushed me over into sociology, which I found more rich in explaining large swaths of human behavior, and had a career as a teacher. Diagnosed schizophrenic at age 24 never slowed me down, as long as I followed the magic of my thoughts and spotted the more dangerous delusions.

Maybe you just joined the wrong bunch of professionals. Not that I ever had a peer group of sociologists (I invented my own sociology) many of whom are also schizoid, basing many of their theories on utopian delusions even I rejected.
