I am convinced that all serious and chronic mental health issues begin in narcissistic families. I have a friend with a severe childlike presentation of what might be called disorganized schizophrenia. The family dynamics, the neglect, gaslighting, the insults and bullying from his narcissist brother are so unmistakable. The parents could not better match descriptions of the schizophrenogenic parents. He is also thoroughly locked in a cycle of overmedication and extremely strong rebound psychosis. He has never had real therapy, and is clearly traumatized. I also have reason to believe there may have been some sexual abuse. How do I help him? I don't believe he is incurable, and I don't really believe in schizophrenia. "Split mind" as it roughly translates is a half baked metaphor at best, but the pseudo Greek exoticism certainly does raise the perceived erudition the runty stepchild of medicine psychiatry is desperate for. Seems like more of a eugenic insult from a very primitive and ableist society.
